“It is alright to criticise the government but we will not tolerate humiliation,” said chief minister, N. Biren Singh during an interactive session with central committee member of People’s Campaign for Resurgent Manipur (PCRM), A. Bimol on the topic, ‘Idea of Manipur towards fractured polity and way forward’.
The interactive session was part of a conclave of the observation of 7th anniversary of the PCRM under the theme ‘Idea of Manipur towards life of dignity’ held today at Hotel Imphal.
Biren said there would have been no dual administration in the hills and valley of the state if the academicians and politicians during 1970s had better analysed and foreseen the future of Manipur.
He asserted that the lack of development in the hill districts in the past years is due to geographical issues as constructing a road in the hills costs more as compared to constructing one in the valley.
According to All India Hill Development Fund, Tamenglong district is getting an additional fund of Rs.90 crore for developmental projects, added Biren.
There has been considerable change in the mind-set of the hill people ever since the new government came to power and around 1,500 students had come to Imphal from Mao alone for higher studies during the past one year, he continued.
Stating that the youths and academicians of the state has a lot of potential, Biren said, “I am proud to be a Manipuri and I can bring all round development in the state within 10 years if we go together in this trend.”
The CM also said that the new government initiated ‘Go to Hills’ and ‘Go to Village’ missions in order to bring egalitarian development across the state and his government had been able to gain the confidence of the masses with the introduction of Meeyamgi Numit, Hill Leaders’ Day and many other people-friendly welfare programmes.
Speaking on the weakness of the current generation, Biren opined that people tend to take diverse steps instead of focussing on the main agenda which would be fruitful in resolving the issue at hand.
The conclave was also attended by MLAs, Oinam Lukhoi and Heikham Dingo, former chief minister, Radhabinod Koijam and former MLA, Ng. Bijoy and others.
